College Professor- Oxford Resident- Illegally Collected Unemployment While Working: Authorities

OXFORD, CT - College professor Angela Skyers, 48, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly collecting more than $8,000 in Unemployment compensation benefits while she was working, according to state officials.

The arrest came after an investigation by the Unemployment Compensation Fraud Unit, based on a tip from the Department of Larbor.

Skyers, an Oxford resident, allegedly collected the money while working at Quinnipiac University and Goodwin College, reports the Waterbury Republican-American.

"According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Skyers fraudulently collected approximately $8,033 in unemployment benefits from August through October 2012 when, in fact, she was employed as a college professor," officials stated.

She was charged with one count each of Larceny in the First Degree by Defrauding a Public Community and Unemployment Compensation Fraud.

Both charges are felonies, and Skyers could face thousands in fines and jail time of at least a year for each count and possibly a maximum of 20 years.

Skyers was released after posting a $10,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on March 10.
