Former Oxford State Rep. Ron San Angelo has landed a job as town administrator in Hanson, Mass.
The Board of Selectmen in Hanson voted unanimously to offer the 50-year-old San Angelo after interviewing three candidates on Saturday. He has accepted it contingent upon the successful negotiation of a contract with the town.
“I’m looking for a new adventure and to try new things,” said San Angelo, a former mayor of Naugatuck and current burgess there. “I happen to love Massachusetts and the water; the town is about a half-hour from the ocean. I love town government and this is an opportunity to work in that environment without having to be elected.”
He first served in local government as a Naugatuck burgess and then as a state representative for the 131st District towns of Naugatuck, Oxford and Southbury for 10 years until 2002. In that year, he lost in an election for secretary of the state to Susan Bysiewicz. In the following year, he beat current Mayor Bob Mezzo and third-party candidate Peter Jurzynski for the mayor’s seat and was re-elected after defeated Curtis Bosco in 2005.
Currently, San Angelo is a senior technology project manager for CGI, an information technology company based in Andover, Mass. He said he manages large projects for the company.
He said he’s excited about the new opportunity.
“The town I am going to is a beautiful town and was extremely well run by the past town administrator,” he said. “So I’m going into a very good situation with a lot of great people; I’m looking forward to it.”
