Girls Track Finishes 10th at Class S Championship
Girls have a good showing; two performers finished in the top five.
The Oxford High School girls track team scored 27 points and placed 10th overall in the Class S Championships Thursday at Willowbrook Park in New Britain.
The 27 points and 10th-place finish is the most and highest ever place in school history.
Freshman Taylor Drayton set a school record in the shot put with a throw of 36-1.5 to place third overall. She also placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 88-feet, 10-inches and second in the javelin with a throw of 103-feet, 4-inches.

Amy Persson placed fifth in the high jump, clearing 4-feet, 10-inches. Both girls advance to Monday's State Open Championship at Willowbrook Park in New Britain. The meet starts at 1:30 p.m.

- Marcea Stilson came in seventh in the 1,600 with a school record time of 5:36.4
- Marcea Stilson, Caylee Richardson, Johnna D'Ambruoso and Olivia Richter finished sixth in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:45
- Corrinn Niski came in eighth in the 30o-meter intermediate hurdles with a school record time of 51.08
- Corrinn Niski, Shelby Burnett, Hannah VanBuiten and Amy Persson finished 13th in the 4x400 meter relay with a school record time of 4:28.9
- Corrinn Niski, Shelby Burnett, Hannah VanBuiten and Sara Thorpe came in ninth in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 54.81
This year, 33 school records have been set or re-set and 42 class records have been set or re-set, said Coach Ed Lucas.
