Girls Track Finishes 5th at State Class Meet
Taylor Drayton wins discus, qualifies for nationals.
The Oxford High School track team finished fifth in the Class S state tournament on Wednesday. The fifth-place finish was the highest finish was the best ever for an Oxford track team.
Taylor Drayton won the discus with a throw of 124-9. This also set the school record and qualified her for the High School Nationals Meet in June. Drayton has also qualified for Nationals in the Javelin. She came in 2nd in the Shot Put with a throw of 36-0 feet. There were 18 girls in the Discus and 17 girls in the Shot Put.
Corrinn Niski came in 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles with a school record time of 48.08. There were 35 girls in the race. Corrinn's time was a 3 second personal best.

Caylee Richardson came in 4th overall in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:46. She ran with the leaders for 6 of the 8 laps. There were 27 girls in the race.
The 4x800 relay team of Caylee Richardson, Sara Thorpe, Olivia Richter and Marcea Stilson came in 4th out of 23 teams with a school record time of 10:00.7.

All the girls mentioned above qualified for the State Open Championships on Monday at 1:30.
Other Oxford runners in the class meet were:
Olivia Richter came in 8th out of 29 runners in the 1600 meter run with a school record time of 5:24.75 and in the 800 she came in 14th out of 20 with another school record in a time of 2:31.39
Hannah VanBuiten came in 21st out of 25 in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.15 and 21st out of 23 in the 400 with a time of 65.12.
The 4x100 relay team of Corrinn Niski, Hannah VanBuiten, Audrey Pratt and Sara Thorpe came in 16th out of 25 teams with a season best time of 53.8
The 4x400 relay team of Corrinn Niski, Sara Thorpe, Lindsey Koski and Becky Gumbrewicz came in 14 out of 19 teams with a time of 4:37.92
Taylor Drayton came in 8th out of 16 in the Javelin with a throw of 100-2 feet.
Audrey Pratt came in 12th out of 17 in the Shot Put with a throw of 29-7.5 feet.
On the day 5 school records were set and 5 class records were also set. To date 50 class records have been set this season and 30 school records have also been set. Every girl beat her seed place in their particular event. An Oxford girl scored in 7 out of the 12 events in which an OHS girl was entered. All this was done without the use of a track or any other practice facilities that the other towns have which make today's performances more amazing.
The next meet is the State Open Championships on Monday starting at 1:30 at Willowbrook Park in New Britain.
