Historical Society Plans November Program on Stevenson Dam
Lake Zoar's hydroelectric power will be a century old this year.

The Oxford Historical Society will celebrate the Centennial of the construction of the Stevenson Dam, its hydroelectric power plant and Lake Zoar with an illustrated talk by local historian and Stevenson Dam expert John Babina. The program will be held Sunday, November 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Riverside Fire House. The Fire House is located at 151 Coppermine Road. Mr. Babina will present the history of the dam’s original planning, its state of the art construction methods and the effects of the project on all the communities that border Lake Zoar. He has compiled a vast collection of period photos which document the process and the changes to our local landscape. Among the display will be 20 photos that have never been displayed in Oxford.
There will be a brief recess for refreshments at 3 p.m. During that time a brief business meeting to elect the 2020 officers for the Historical Society will be held. Following the break, discussion will resume.
General admission is $5; members $3. Children under 12 are free. Those who haven't joined the Society no comma may join that day to get the members’ rate and the membership will be effective through 2020. Membership dues help the Society preserve the Twitchell-Rowland Homestead and the Mr. Munn Schoolhouse and provide funding for programs in the local schools and to the general public.
