Illegal immigrants - what are they taking from you?

We are a nation of laws.  It is problematic when our leaders use their personal discretion on enforcement.  Immigration is a centerpiece of national debate these days.  Unfortunately, and perhaps deliberately, when the left debates the topic legal and illegal immigration are blended as one.  They should not be, they are distinct issues.

We all know that we are a nation of immigrants and in the quest to populate this young nation immigration was actively encouraged.  Most of us have had ancestors who passed through Ellis Island and by our magnificent statue of Liberty on the road to freedom and opportunity.  As our population grew we knew that immigration had to be managed, this is not a bad thing.  People who wish to emigrate to the U.S. must follow due process, incur costs, and sometimes come alone with the hopes of having family members join at a later date.  They must have sponsors and a means of financial support.  Those looking to be educated here in our Universities often must agree to work anywhere our government sends them once they graduate.  I personally know a physician and therapist who were sent to Maine to work in a clinic for four years in exchange for the opportunity to be educated and live here.  So, what gives anyone the right to jump the line?  Why do we get all squishy and allow those who take, yes take, to continue to take?  Illegal immigrants cost our households approximately $1,800.00 each per year.  It is wrong to access social services and jobs at the expense of citizens and those who have been granted lawful entrance to our country.

We’ve watched New Haven become a sanctuary city and our state award driver’s licenses to illegals.  We are rewarding lawbreakers and hurting the lawful.

If our governor had his way we’d give even more.  I’m attaching two videos here.  Malloy held a town hall in late February in Norwalk.  In the first video, a high school student proudly declares himself undocumented and shares how he came to be here and how he has excelled academically.  He already has access to in state tuition but that’s not enough, he wants more.  Malloy ponders how to give more to him.

The second video is a rebuttal to Malloy’s embracing of this lawbreaker.  Observe the disdain of the crowd, as if this young man some how has a right to that which he is seeking.

Special thanks to videographer Palin Smith for memorializing those key moments that the mainstream media seems to ignore.

It does not matter which side of the political aisle we are on, this should outrage everyone.

How would you feel if you, or someone you knew fell right behind this young man academically and was cheated out of something by this lawbreaker?

Speaking out against illegal immigration is not politically correct.  However, if we do not force our government to do the right thing, hard though it may be, we will continue this cycle of amnesty that began during the Reagan years.  We don’t have to send out raid brigades.   Just refuse access to all social services starting with education, come down hard on employers that hire illegal immigrants.  Take these steps and we will reduce illegal immigration and precipitate self-deportation.  I don’t want to hear the argument that they take the jobs that American’s don’t want.  Let’s use those openings to reduce the welfare rolls.

Finally, if the government can selectively enforce laws doesn’t it make sense that we can selectively obey them without repercussion?

It’s time our politicians stopped spitting in the face of the law abiding while singing Kumbaya with the lawbreakers.

Malloy’s next town hall is Wednesday March 5 in Milford.  I strongly suggest heading out and questioning him on the issues that are important to you.
