Two Women Survive Horrific I-84 Crash
The accident occurred around noon Wednesday at Exit 16 in Southbury, one of the main exits that leads to Oxford.
A woman who was hospitalized following a grisly midday accident in Southbury Wednesday was listed in stable condition at Saint Mary’s Hospital later that evening, hospital officials said.
Jillian Zampaglione, 30, of Winsted, was rear ended by a tractor-trailer, causing her vehicle to propel some 200 feet on Interstate 84 west near exit 16 around 11:53 a.m., according to a state police report. Police originally said Wednesday that she may have suffered life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened when a tractor-trailer driven by Jaspal Singh, 39, of Hyde Park, N.Y., stopped abruptly in the left center lane of the four-lane highway because of state Department of Transportation construction, the report states.
The tractor-trailer plowed into Zampaglione’s vehicle, totaling the 2008 Kia Rondo, according to the report.

Zampaglione’s car propelled into three other vehicles in front of her - one car and two tractor-trailers, the report states. The collision totaled the car driven by Diane Drakeley, 71, of Southbury, and caused minor damage to the two tractor-trailer; Drakeley was transported to Waterbury Hospital with minor injuries, the report states.
The accident remains under investigation.
