Malloy Hears Concerns About Unfunded Mandates/Tuition Hikes [Video]

Gov. Dannel Malloy was put on the hot seat during a regional Q&A forum.

NAUGATUCK -- Gov. Dannel P. Malloy discussed several issues facing the state in front of close to 100 people at Naugatuck High School Wednesday night. Among those were gun control, unfunded state mandates, tuition hikes, the environment, energy, the teachers retirement fund and the state budget.

In the next few days, we're going to post videos showing what the public had to say about some of these issues.

Today, we take a look at unfunded state mandates and state college tuition hikes. Naugatuck Finance Board Chairwoman Diane Scinto questioned Malloy about both of those Wednesday. She said it's the dream of most parents to send their children to college and that tuition hikes may make that dream unrealistic for some parents and their children. She also said that the Finance Board grapples with ways to pay for unfunded state mandates every year.

The video shows both Scinto's questions and Malloy's response. This is the longest of the videos we will be posting.
