Man Arrested In Connection With Crash That Killed Oxford Man: PD

The accused is charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond. BREAKING

NAUGATUCK, CT — A Naugatuck man has been arrested in connection with a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred in the Borough on Feb. 27 on Gunntown Road, police said. The victim was an Oxford man.

On Tuesday, Alexander Oneschuk, 71, was taken into custody by the Naugatuck Valley Collision Investigation Team on an outstanding arrest warrant that stemmed from a fatal two-car motor vehicle collision that occurred.

The investigation was completed by the Naugatuck Valley Collision Investigation Team which consists of officers from the towns of Cheshire, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Plymouth, Watertown and Wolcott. Naugatuck Police Officer Thomas McGarvey was lead investigator.

The investigation included post-collision mechanical inspections, a technical reconstruction, quantitative analysis of operator blood samples at the State Forensics’ Laboratory, and operator background investigations, police said.

It was determined that Oneschuck crossed the center line and collided head-on with a vehicle being driven by Daniel Lucas, 43, of 38 Towantic Hill Road Oxford, police said. Lucas was pronounced dead from his injuries at the scene of the collision.

Oneschuk was held on a $100,000 bond pending his appearance at Waterbury Superior Court.

• Failure to Drive in the Proper Lane on a Multiple-Lane Highway (§C.G.S. 14-236),

• Reckless Driving (§C.G.S. 14-222),

• Operating Under Suspended Registration (§C.G.S. 14-215(a)),

• Mandatory Security Requirements (No Insurance) (§C.G.S. 38a-371)

• Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle (§C.G.S. 14-12(a)*)
