Millions Reduced From Oxford Middle School Project: Report

Some officials and residents felt that the original asking price was just too high.

OXFORD, CT — The new price tag for building a new middle school is $44.9 million after the Board of Selectmen reduced the costs by $3.7 million, according to the Republican-American.

The selectmen and some residents felt that the initial $48.6 million price tag was too expensive and wouldn't be supported by the community. The new middle school, if approved by voters during a November referendum, will replace Oxford Center School and be constructed on Great Oak Road.

The Rep-Am reports that Oxford residents will pay $33 million with the state picking up the remaining money. All three Selectmen expressed support for the project but wanted to reduce the costs to taxpayers.
