More Than $100K Spent On Trying To Fire Oxford's Football Coach: Report

The price tag is expected to continue to rise as more bills are outstanding.

OXFORD, CT — The Board of Education spent more than $103,088 in legal fees in connection with the termination hearing concerning Oxford High School football coach and teacher Joseph Stochmal, the Republican-American reports.

The coach was charged with breach of peace last December after he went to central officers and allegedly confronted them, upset that he believed his brother was forced to resign a job in the district.

Stochmal, a teacher in the system, was placed on paid administrative leave. School officials have said Stochmal cursed at them and was out of control but Stochmal has denied those charges.

After a series of hearings, an arbitrator ruled this summer that Stochmal could keep both of his jobs.

School officials say the $103,088 figure will increase and a source told Patch the total bills are likely to exceed $150,000. One school member told the Rep-Am that she is "deeply disturbed" by the "enormous expense of this case."
