New Field To Be Named In Memory Of Oxford Teen Who Died At 19

A dedication ceremony has been scheduled and residents are invited to attend.

OXFORD, CT – First Selectman George R. Temple announced Friday that one of the new fields at Tetlak Park will be named in memory of a former softball player.

Temple said there will be dedication ceremony for naming the field after Emily Yish, on Saturday June 17, at 11 a.m. at the park on Bowers Hill Road. All are invited to attend.

Yish passed away in April 2014 at the age of 19 after battling epilepsy. She graduated from Oxford High School in 2012 where she played basketball for four years and softball in her junior year. She had attended American International College in Springfield, Mass.

Yish had volunteered at Griffin Hospital in Derby and also volunteered for the BridgeportSound Tigers Booster Club. She had a passion for sports including the New York Yankees, the UConn Women’s Basketball Team, Bridgeport Sound Tigers and New York Islanders.

After the dedication light refreshments will be served.
