OHS Basketball Roundup: Girls Victorious, Boys Play Hard in Defeat

The girls basketball team cruised to victory over Amistad Academy on Monday to improve to 4-10 on the season.
The girls won 62-16 behind 17 points from guard Jordyn Tolomeo, who hit three 3-pointers. Post players Taylor Drayton and Sam Orner had 10 points apiece, while Rhinannon Bacik had 10 rebounds to pace the Wolverines, who are in action again tonight at 7 at home against Kolbe Cathedral.
The Oxford boys basketball team lost to Watertown of the Naugatuck Valley League 81-64 in out-of-league action on Monday.

Oxford, 2-11, was led by Jason Mraz, 19 points, J.T. VanKamerik, 11 points and Seth Calvanese, eight points.
Despite the loss, head coach Al Tolomeo said he was pleased with his team’s hustle and effort.

“The kids cut a 32-point deficit at one point down to 16 points,” he said. “The kids are still positive and working hard. We still have a couple games circled on the schedule, and we can still make a run at the states.”
Watertown, 10-2, is among the top teams in the NVL.
Oxford is in action again at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Kolbe Cathedral.
