Oxford Approves Funds for Homeland Security Project
Oxford officials say the town had been criticized previously for not having the item before.

OXFORD, CT - Yes, the town of Oxford is spending $23,403 to construct a Homeland Security Mezzanine project.
Town officials earlier this month approved the project and the awarding of the bid to Jeff Haney & Son Builders LLC. Selectman Jeff Haney recused himself from the vote, and Board of Selectmen meeting minutes note this is the first time he’s ever bid on a town project.
Officials stressed that the bids were sealed and everything was above board.

Now back to the actual project. The mezzanine will be 16 X 30 climate controlled storage unit to store emergency bottled water and MRE’s, which would be enough to accommodate 10 percent of Oxford’s population in an emergency.
During a hurricane drill, the town was criticized for not having such a mezzanine, meeting minutes state.
