Oxford Boys Track & Field Has 14 Personal Bests in Dual Meet
Wolverines lose to Seymour and North Haven despite solid track performances.
The Oxford High School boys track team had 14 personal records but fell short against Seymour and North Haven in a meet at Seymour High School on Friday afternoon.
The Wolverines lost to Seymour 66-83 and 40-110 against North Haven.
"Those are two great track programs we faced today," Oxford Head Coach Charlie Rizzio said. "We did some good things today, and we did some not so good things. Overall, the boys put up 14 personal records, and that is how we measure our success from meet-to-meet."

He said his Wolverines can feel confident knowing they outscored Seymour on the track by a score of 50-36. But they lost 16-47 to Seymour in the field events. Oxford's team score took a hit when Seymour gained 27 points in three field events: triple jump, high jump and pole vault. It is difficult for Oxford athletes to practice those events because Oxford doesn't have a track facility to train on. Oxford doesn't put athletes in the pole vault, so the team starts nine points in the hole at every meet.
"We will continue to work the heck out of our jumpers and throwers and see how we develop over the season," Rizzio said.
