OXFORD, CT - Oxford is in the position of being one of a handful of communities whose taxes are expected to actually decrease next year.

On Thursday, residents head to the polls to vote on the $45.6 million budget for fiscal 2016-17, which increases spending by $1.6 million representing a 3.7 percent increase, the Republican-American reports.

Voting occurs 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Quaker Farms School. First Selectman George R. Temple told the Rep-Am that despite spending increasing, revenues are also increasing and Oxford is in a great financial position. Taxes for the average homeowner could decline by about $157 next year, the Rep-Am reports.

Residents will also vote on whether to approve $734,000 for local road repairs.
