Today marks the opening day of fishing season in Connecticut, and several locals have taken to nearby ponds and lakes to try their luck on this blustery early spring day.
And while many parents and their children had fun baiting hooks and reeling rods, the Oxford Parks and Recreation Commission is waiting for warmer weather to hold its annual fishing derby. (The following information is from a news release submitted by Oxford Parks and Recreation Director Debbie Gatto.)
The commission will co-host the Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, May 14, at Kirk's Pond next to the Stephen B. Church Memorial Town Hall on Route 67 in Oxford. The other host is the Seymour Fish and Game Club.
