Oxford Girl, 12, Continues to Fight Despite Transplant Setback
The Oxford community is holding a fundraiser to help her and her family raise money for staggering medical bills.

For the past several years residents of Oxford and nearby towns have been following the strength and determination of Chelsea Wheeler, 12, who is battling a condition that causes her to go into intestinal failure.
Last month, Chelsea, had a life-saving small bowel transplant, but the Republican-American reports that thus far her body has rejected it.
Chelsea is on medication to hopefully reverse that rejection but she’s been confined to her bed recently. Despite the setback, Chelsea continues to fight on, and so does the Oxford community to help her and her family, the Rep-Am reports.

At 6 p.m. on Oct. 21 the Oxford High School girls soccer team is holding a benefit game at Oxford High School. Proceeds will go to help the Wheeler family pay staggering medical bills.
Thus far $128,000 has been raised for Chelsea and her family.

Last year Chelsea’s mom, Linda, said her daughter has had health-related issues since birth and has undergone more than 30 surgeries. Also, post-transplant care will require life-long medications that can cost into the thousands of dollars per month.
