Oxford Girls Track Performs Well in Invitational Meet

School records set in several events.

Irv Black Invitational @ Willowbrook Park, New Britian CT4/23/11

The Oxford High School girls track team participated in the Irv Black Invitational at Willowbrook Park in New Britain on Saturday. More than 2,000 high school student-athletes from across the state participated in the event. The following is a look at Oxford's top performers from the meet.

  • Sara Ponce came in 17 out of 43 in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:42; she set a new school record in the process.
  • Amy Persson came 18 out of 41 in the 400 Intermediate Hurdles with a time of 1:19; she, too, set a school record in the event.
  • Olivia Hinnau, Brianna Hoffner, Giovanna McMahon and Johnna D'Ambruoso came in 2nd in the 800 meter Sprint Medley; they set a school record in the event with a time of 2:17.
  • Taylor Drayon came in 5th out of 40 in discus with a throw of 96 feet.
  • Hannah VanBuiten came in 30th out of 79 in the 100 meters with a time of 14.2.
