Oxford Girls Track Splits in Dual Meet

Team's record goes to 2-3 on the season.

The Oxford High School girls track team defeated Brookfield but lost to Bethel during a dual meet at Brookfield on Tuesday. The team beat Brookfield 76.5 to 69.5 but lost to Bethel 83 to 66.

Oxford is now 2-3 on the season.

Marcea Stilson, Sara Ponce, Caylee Richardson and Brianna Hoffner won the 4x800 meter relay in the time of 11:07. The relay team qualified for the Class S State and Southwest Conference Championships. Stephanie Romanowski won the long jump in a jump of 14' 4".  Sara Ponce won the 3200 meter run in a time of 12:55. Taylor Drayton won the shot put with a throw of 33-feet, two-inches (school record) and discus with a throw of 104-feet, 10-inches, which is also a school record.

Twelve out of the 19 girls on the team have qualified for the Southwest Conference Championships and Class S State Championships.

Six school records have been set so far this season in the young program, and 15 class records (the team keeps track of records for the freshman through senior classes) have been set so far this season.

The next meet is Tuesday at Pomperaug High School with Newtown and New Fairfield.
