Oxford Girls Track Wins 2 of 3 in Final Regular Season Meet

Team finishes with a 5-9 regular season record.

The Oxford High School girls track team won two out of three in a four-team meet on Monday.

The girls lost to Weston 97.5 - 54.5, but beat Lauralton Hall 106.5 - 19.5 and Notre Dame-Fairfield 117-3 at Weston High School.

Oxford finishes the regular season with a 5-9 season. Five wins is the most in OHS girls track history, said coach Ed Lucas.

Here are some of Oxford's highlights:

  • Amy Persson won the high hump with a jump of 4-feet, 10-inches and the 300 intermediate hurdles in 51.1 seconds. Her hurdle time is a new school record.Caylee Richardson won the 3,200 in 12:39 minutes, also a new school record.
  • Taylor Drayon won the shot put with a throw of 30-feet, 8.5-inches and the discus with a throw of 97-feet, 3-inches. Drayton, a freshman, was undefeated all season in the discus. She also placed second in the javelin with a throw of 87-feet, 8-inches.
  • Marcea Stilson, Caylee Richardson, Johnna D'Ambruoso and Olivai Richer finished second in the 4x800-meter relay with a school record time of 10:32 minutes.
  • Shelby Burnett, Hannah VanBuiten, Sara Thorpe Corrinn Niski placed second in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 53.9 seconds.
  • Olivia Hinnau placed second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.8 seconds and fourth in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles with a time of one minute even.
  • Corrinn Niski placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 19.3 seconds and second in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 52.1 seconds.
  • Hannah VanBuiten placed second in the 100 meters with a time of 13.8 seconds, and third in the 400 meters with a time of one minute, 9 seconds, and fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 28.8 seconds.
  • Sara Thorpe placed third in the 100 meters with a time of 13.9 seconds and fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 29.6 seconds and fouth in the shot put with a throw of 19-feet, 2-inches.
  • Marcea Stilson placed second in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:52 minutes.
  • Caylee Richardson placed third in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:54 minutes.
  • Olivia Richter placed fourth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 6:06 seconds and second in the 3,200 meters with a time of 12:54 minutes.
  • Giovanna McMahon placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of one minute, 14 seconds, and second in the 800 meters with a time of 3:03 minutes.
  • Shelby Burnett, Amy Persson, Johanna D'Ambruoso and Corrinn Niski placed second in the 4x400 meter relay with a school record time of 4:30 minutes.
  • Shelby Burnett placed fourth in the high jump, clearing 4-feet, 4-inches
  • Jill Miller placed fourth in the long jump with a jump of 11-feet, 11.5-inches. 
  • Johnna D'Ambruoso placed 4th in the Javelin with a throw of 58-3 and 3rd in the discus with a throw of 53-feet, 10-inches.
  • The girls have set or re-set 26 school records and 23 class records this season.
  • 14 of the 19 girls on the team qualified for the SWC and Class S Championships. They are:
  • Seniors: Shelby Burnett - 200 meters, 4x100, 4x400; Amy Persson - High Jump, 300 Intermediate Hurdles, 4x400; Johanna D'Ambruoso - 4x800, 4x400; Stephanie Romanowksi - Long Jump, Triple Jump; Juniors: Caylee Richardson - 3200 meters, 4x800; Sara Thorpe - 4x100; Corrinn Niski -  4x100, 4x400, 300 Intermediate Hurdles; Sophomores: Marcea Stilson - 800 meters, 1600 meters, 3200 meters, 4x800; Freshmen: Olivia Richter - 3200 meters, 4x800, Taylor Drayton - Shot Put, Discus, Javelin                Hannah VanBuiten - 100 meters, 4x100, 4x400; Olivia Hinnau - 100 meter hurdles; Brianna Hoffner - 4x800; Sara Ponce - 4x800, 3200 meters

Oxford's next meet is Monday May 23 at Bethel HS for the SWC Championships.
