Oxford Historical Society Receives Internet Project Grant
The $10,000 grant will enable the consolidation and upgrade of the Society's website and associated local history websites.

A $10,000 grant to the Oxford Historical Society awarded by Connecticut Humanities will enable the consolidation and upgrade of the Society's website and associated local history websites. This includes the oxfordpast.com website which was developed before the use of cell phones for internet connections. As cell phones are increasingly used, users had difficulty accessing the information because of the format limitations. A new design to accommodate the newer technology is necessary.

The consolidation of this material into the Oxford Historical Society website will include the genealogy of over 44,000 individuals from Oxford and surrounding towns, transcriptions of old Oxford diaries, town reports and hundreds of old photographs in the historical society collection. In addition the upgraded website will include special material for educators and students and a library of reference materials. In addition the Society has scanned local news articles from old issues of the Seymour Record that are not available online. These scanned articles will be the available for transcription, to build up a searchable collection of these articles published from 1882 through 1895.
Town Historian Dorothy A. DeBisschop, said the upgrade will be a valuable tool to provide a variety of local history information that is available nowhere else.
