Oxford Looks To Purchase 144-Acre Farm For Open Space
Officials say this land is one of the oldest farms in town.

OXFORD, CT — The town is taking initial steps to purchase the 144-acre Schreiber's Farm for open space purposes. The Board of Selectmen voted to seek a possible state grant to help with the purchase.
First Selectman George R. Temple said that this is "very early in the process." He said Schreiber approached him about the town buying the land. Temple said this would be funded through a state grant.
Temple said there is a good chance that there is an endangered rabbit species on the property. Also there are two ponds, a trout stream and a camping area. An appraisal will be conducted.

"The value for recreational use is considerable and there is a lot of wildlife and hiking trails there," Temple said at a recent meeting. "It would be a nice addition to the town's open space portfolio, and it is one of the oldest farms in Oxford."
The town is hoping all of the funds would come from a state grant, Temple told the selectmen.
