Oxford Moves Forward with Surveillance Cameras at Lily Park
The Board of Selectman approved funds for the installation but it still requires Board of Finance approval.

Oxford, CT - The Board of Selectmen voted last month 2-1 in support of spending up to $23,991 to install surveillance equipment at Lily Park and Ryan's Court, according to Board of Selectmen meeting minutes.
The Board of Finance must also approve the contract with Setronics Corp., of Mass.
During the meeting, according to meeting minutes, Selectman Jeffrey Haney stated he wanted the contract to go out to bid because the price tag was in excess of $10,000 and he raised concern that the price quoted may be too high.

But First Selectman George Temple said he's been pursing the surveillance equipment for the park for more than a year and "in light of the current events happening, the safety of the town children is more important," meeting minutes state.
He said the surveillance equipment includes cameras with high definition to read license plates and provide a clear picture of a person's face, meeting minutes state.

"Lily Park should be a place for fun for the children and a place where the town does not have to worry about," Temple said according to meeting minutes.
Haney, according to meeting minutes, also stressed that he too is concerned for the children but doesn't have all the information needed before voting to approve the funds.
