Oxford Native An All-American at UNH
Softball player makes it to All-American team and earns Academic All-American honors.
University of New Haven senior outfielder Chelsea Harold of Oxford has been named to a Daktronics NCAA Division II Softball All-American honorable mention selection which was announced on Wednesday, according to a news release from the UNH Sports Information Department. Voted on by the College Sports Information Director's of American (CoSIDA), Daktronics recognizes All-Region and All-American teams in nearly all Division II sports throughout the athletic year, the release states.
Harold, who played at Seymour High School, was also named to the All-American Second Team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), the release states.
The release states the following:
Harold led the Chargers to their fourth-straight NCAA Tournament bid this season. She finished the 2011 campaign with a .439 batting average, 51 runs scored and 14 RBI. She also recorded three doubles, two triples, two homeruns, 34 stolen bases, a .451 on-base percentage and a .508 slugging percentage. Harold concluded the season tied for first in the Northeast-10 Conference in stolen bases, second in both hits and runs scored and third in batting average. She was the 18th toughest person to strikeout in Division II and ranked 21st in stolen bases as well. She never committed an error in left field and was also named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team and Capital One Academic All-District College Division Softball Second Team.
Oxford resident Alana Wesche, who played for Naugatuck High School, is also on the UNH team. She took her freshman year off but came back strong this year, pitching her first career no hitter. Click here to read a story about her from the Naugatuck Citizen's News.
