Oxford Residents Will Vote in November on Proposed $3.5M Oxford Library

However, while residents will be asked to approve $3.5 million, town leaders say they want to limit the costs as much as possible.

On the ballot this November, Oxford residents will be asked to vote on whether they want to appropriate $3.5 million for a new Oxford Library to be constructed on town owned land on Great Oak Road.

Residents will be asked to vote either ‘yes or no’ to borrow the funds.

The Board of Selectmen voted last week to approve adding the question to the ballot, and according to meeting minutes, First Selectman George R. Temple said he doesn’t want to spend all $3.5 million on the project.

Other selectmen supported Temple’s remarks, according to meeting minutes, and James Hliva spoke to bond counsel and added language into the resolution that if anymore than a certain amount is spent, possibly $3 million in total contracts issued, that they’d have to go back to receive approval from both the selectmen and finance boards.

Other members noted that they want to ensure a blank check isn’t approved for the project.
