OXFORD, CT — School Superintendent Ana Ortiz’ contract was extended for a third year, by a 5-2 vote of the Board of Education on Wednesday evening.
Extending the superintendent’s contract had become a controversial issue as a group of parents have been circulating a petition on social media asking the board to fire the superintendent, claiming she has mismanaged the school system.

But Board of Education Chairman Amy Cote on Thursday said the board decided that Ortiz deserved to have her contract extended her contract.
“The board held two full meetings reviewing the superintendent’s job performance and after holding those meetings and doing her performance review, the majority of the board has decided to extend her contract.”

Cote didn’t discuss the details of the discussions the board held concerning Ortiz’ job performance at length, nor did she address the petition being circulated by the parents that wanted her fired.
Cote did say - “Most of us felt she deserved to serve out the remainder of her contact, which is why we extended it a third year."
