Oxford Soccer Looks to Bounce Back Against Bunnell

The team looks to get on the winning track with a win against the Stratford school.

The Oxford High School soccer team had two shots on goal that struck the goal post on Tuesday in a 2-0 loss at New Fairfield.

A couple inches in different direction and those shots go in. Instead of going to overtime to settle the score, Oxford drops its record to 1-2 on the season.

"But that's soccer," said head coach Charles Egervari.

The Wolverines play Bunnell High School Thursday at 3:45 p.m. at home. Egervari said the team is looking for a few wins to bounce back from a rough start. In order to do that, he said, the teams forwards need to follow through on their attacks and the midfielders need to be more aggressive to help control the midde of the field.

"A couple of my key players are very nice players, but they are too nice," he said. "They are not rouch enough. That might work in rec league soccer, but it's not going to work in high school where the kids are really aggressive."

A bright spot for the season so far is that goalkeeper Christian Kosta has been spectacular, Egervari said.

"Our potential is there, but we just haven't really tapped it yet," Egervari said.
