The Pomperaug Health District offers the most protective flu vaccines currently on the market. The quadrivalent shot protects against 4 strains of flu virus. Flublok vaccine is not made with eggs; persons with egg allergies may receive the Flublok vaccine. FluBlok vaccine is available only at flu clinics in the Health District office. High-dose flu vaccine is available for persons 65 years and older. Studies have shown that the high-dose vaccine is safe and more effective for seniors than the regular vaccine, however, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control & Prevention) does not express a preference for any flu vaccine indicated for people 65 and older.
