Power Outages Impact Oxford Sports Schedule

The following was submitted by Oxford High School Athletic Director and Assistant Principal Glenn Lungarini:

After consultation with the Oxford Resident State Trooper and Superintendent James Connelly it has been determined that Oxford’s road still present a danger for safe passage to and from Oxford High School.  Therefore, all athletic practices and competitions have been cancelled until Monday, Nov. 7, 2011.  I hope our families are managing this difficult time well and look forward to seeing our students on Monday.  Following is the rescheduled events for each sport affected:

Girls Swimming – SWC Championship will be held on Monday, Nov. 7, 4:30 p.m. at Masuk High School. The bus will leave OHS at 2:30 p.m.for 3p.m. warmups.

Cross Country – CIAC Class S/SS meets will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8, Noon at Hammonasset State Park in Madison.  The bus will leave OHS at 9 a.m.

Boys Soccer – CIAC Class S tournament will begin on Tuesday, November 8. We are awaiting confirmation from CIAC that we have qualified as a result of our final game versus Bullard Havens being cancelled due to weather. (Editor’s Note: The team needed to win the game against Bullard Havens in order to make the state playoffs.) Pairings will be released this weekend.

Football – Varsity game vs. New Fairfield has been postponed to Saturday, Nov. 19.

JV game vs. New Fairfield scheduled for Monday has been postponed to Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Varsity game scheduled vs. Pomperaug for Saturday, November 19 has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 23, 7 p.m. at Pomperaug.

JV game scheduled vs. Pomperaug for Monday, November 21 has been rescheduled, tentatively, for Thursday, Nov. 17.
