Proposed Power Plant Clears One Legal Challenge: Report

Oxford residents are also being asked to approve a tax agreement with the power plant operators and a referendum has been set up.

Opponents of the $1 billion CPV Towantic Energy Power Plant in Oxford were dealt a setback this week, but the fight is likely far from over.

A Superior Court Judge ruled in support of the Connecticut Siting Council’s approval of the power plant, noting that the council produced 9,000 pages of evidence to support its decision, the Republican-American reports.

An appeal to the State Appellate Court is possible.

Additionally, Oxford residents will vote 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 11 at Quaker Farms School on whether to approve a proposed tax agreement between the power plant operators and the town of Oxford.

Oxford could receive a $112 million payment in lieu of taxes if the agreement is approved. A previous tax proposal was rejected by residents.
