Public Hearing Tonight in Oxford on Budget Proposal: Report
A tax decrease is currently in the cards for residents but of course things are very unsettled at the State Capitol.

OXFORD, CT — A public hearing is being held 7 p.m. tonight (Monday, April 17) at Quaker Farms School concerning a proposed 4.3 percent tax cut, the Republican-American reports. The total proposed town budget is $47.6 million and on average a homeowner could save $257 in taxes next year, the Rep-Am calculated.
First Selectman George R. Temple said he hopes there is a good turnout at the meeting and residents give feedback on what they like and what they don't. The school budget is slated for a 1.7 percent increase and the municipal budget is increasing by 8.6 percent, which includes $2.38 million for capital projects that may or may not get completed.
Most of the capital projects are at the school level. Oxford, like many communities, may have to adjust its budget due to the state's billion dollar deficit projection for next year.
