Sports Roundup: Wrestling Rolls, Basketball Teams Drop Games to Newtown

wrestling team improved to 14-5 on the season with a win Wednesday, 57-21, over Brookfield. The Wolverines are 9-1 in the South-West Conference.

They travel to Thomaston at 10 a.m. on Saturday to meet highly-rated Haddam Killingworth, Thomaston and Northwestern.

The team will close its regular season at home on senior night versus rival Pomperaug at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

The Oxford High School boys basketball team dropped a close game to Newtown, 74-69, on Tuesday.

Tyler Gruttadauria had 19 points for Oxford, while J.T. VanKamerik had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolverines, 2-12.

Jason Mraz had nine points and nine rebounds, while Kevin Severson had six rebounds for Oxford.

The Oxford High girls basketball team dropped to 4-12 on the season with a 58-22 loss to Newtown on Tuesday.

Taylor Drayton had nine points for Oxford, while Jordyn Tolomeo had seven.
