State Tourney: Volleyball, Baseball Win; Softball Loses

Oxford High School underdogs in state tournament action but pull off two big victories.

The Oxford High School baseball and boys volleyball teams were victorious in upset victories during state tournament action on Tuesday.

The softball team, which was ranked 24th in Class S, came up just short, dropping a 2-to-1 game against No. 9 ranked East Hampton.

The baseball team, which was ranked 26th in Class S, defeated No. 7 Derby by a score of 2-0.

And the boys volleyball team knocked off Oliver Wolcott Tech for the first time in school history winning three straight sets after dropping the first. Oxford was ranked 11th in Class M; Oliver Wolcott was ranked sixth.

All three games were on the road.

The baseball team plays Old Lyme at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow at Old Lyme, which is ranked 10th in Class S.

The volleyball team plays Newington, which is ranked third in Class S and had a first round bye, at 7 p.m. Friday at Newington High School.
