Oxford Razors Swim Team to Hold Tryouts
Looking for a sport that is good for your child’s health – both mind and body? A skill that will be beneficial not only now but throughout their lives? Swimming is the answer.
The Oxford Razors Park and Rec Swim Team will be holding tryouts for students K-12 on Monday, Sept. 26 and Wednesday, Sept. 28 from 6-6:30 on both nights. The Razors are an intramural swim team and practice at the Oxford High School 4-5 times a week. The fall session will begin on Oct. 1 and run through the end of February, 2012.

To qualify for the team, swimmers in grades K-3 must be able to swim 25 yards freestyle; swimmers in grades 4-12 must be able to swim 50 yards, freestyle and backstroke.
If you are interested in being part of a great swim team, come to the OHS pool on either Sept. 26 or 28 to tryout and register.

Yoga and Meditation Programs Offered
Oxford Parks and Recreation announces the start of new Yoga and Meditation programs tonight at Quaker Farms School (Media Center), 30 Great Oak Road, Oxford. Benefits include greater flexibility, strength, balance and energy, reduced stress, improved health and peace of mind.
The instructor is Sue Wall, MPH in health education, with certifications in Kripalu Yoga and Phoenix Rising and Structural Yoga Therapies.
Yoga: A Complete System for Balanced Body & Mind is for mixed levels of ability and provides detailed instruction in yoga postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques.
Two sessions are offered: Tuesdays (the first started yesterday), 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Sept. 20 to Nov. 1 (you can still participate if you missed yesterday), or Wednesdays, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Sept. 21 (tonight) to Nov. 9.
Meditation for Stress Reduction, Health & Well-Being teaches the foundations of mindfulness meditation through the practice of sitting meditation and other practical techniques that can be applied to daily life.
This course meets on Wednesdays, 7:30-9 p.m., Sept. 21 (tonight) to Oct. 26.
Fees for Oxford residents are: Tuesday Yoga (7 weeks): $105; Wednesday Yoga (8 weeks): $120; Meditation (6 weeks): $135. Non- residents, please add $5.

Children's Dance Classes Offered
Oxford Parks and Recreation is once again offering a kids dance program which is held once per week at Quaker Farms School. The classes are for ages 4 and up. A list of the available classes is shown below. For the first week, children should wear comfortable clothing and shoes and the instructor will advise you of any additional shoes that may be needed. Some classes include tap, some include jazz. The fee is for the entire year. The only additional cost will be for the recital which will be held at the end of the school year.
The recital fee will be $75 and will include the child’s costume, tights, award and all fees associated with the recital. There is NO additional fee charged for admission to the recital. The date for the recital has yet to be determined, but will be in May. Class times:
Tuesdays : 6:15-7 p.m. (4-year-olds) Ballet/tap with Miss Elisabeth
6:00-6:45 (8-to-13-year-olds) Latin Fusion/Hip Hop/Line/Ballet & Tap with Miss Nikki
7:00-7:45 (6-to-9-year-olds) Ballet/Tap/Jazz with Miss Elisabeth
Thursdays: 6:15-7:00 (5-year-olds) Ballet/Tap with Miss Elisabeth
7:00-7:45 (6-9-year-olds) Ballet/Tap/Jazz with Miss Elisabeth
Dates: Sept – May (end date dependant upon recital date)
Place: Quaker Farms School
Fee: $150 for the year (Oxford Residents)/$175 for non-residents; Recital Fee of $75 is due by Nov. 17.
