Tentative Date for Public Hearing on Proposed Power Plant in Oxford

The hearing is likely to take place in January.

The Connecticut Siting Council will seek approval for Jan. 15 as the tentative date for a public hearing on the proposed power plant in Oxford at its Dec. 11 meeting, the Republican-American reports.

The project was approved on a permit 15-years ago that allows for it to be built as a 512-megawatt plan in an industrial zone on Woodruff Hill Road. Massachusetts-based Competitive Power Venture is seeking to modify the application to accommodate a larger facility at the same location. On Friday, the council agreed to consider an application for a larger power plant at the proposed site.

Executive Director of the council, Melanie A. Bachman told the paper the first hearing would be held in Oxford for convenience to the public but future hearings may be held in New Britain.

According to the paper, at the hearing the council will conduct an afternoon public field review on the project site followed by evidentiary proceedings and time in the evening would be reserved for public comment.

Citizens against the plant have started a petition against the energy plant that has already received 1,190 of the 2,000 signatures. A Facebook page has also been set up to oppose the proposed construction of the plant.
