In the face of rising costs and increasing tax burdens, middle-class families and retirees in Ridgefield (and across Connecticut) are finding it harder to make ends meet.
The vote last week to raise the property tax on your car, coinciding with the arrival of this year's tax bills, only adds to the financial strain. Our local representatives' support for higher taxes on truckers has led to higher grocery prices.
This highlights a troubling trend: that our state government is failing to prioritize the economic well-being of its citizens.
Connecticut has long been known for its quality of life, but escalating taxes and inflation under decades of one-party rule threaten to undermine this reputation. Many residents are feeling the pinch of Biden's inflation, which has driven up prices by 20%+ on everyday necessities. Combined with numerous tax hikes in recent years, including the recent car tax increase and the trucker tax, these factors are making our state increasingly unaffordable, particularly for those on fixed incomes or working hard to support their families.
The current approach to taxation is unsustainable and unfair to the very people who make up the backbone of our community. It is time for a change in leadership, one that prioritizes fiscal responsibility and the needs of our residents. I believe in policies that foster economic growth while keeping taxes in check, ensuring that Connecticut remains a viable place for middle-class families and retirees to live and thrive.
