Among the awards handed out on RPD Awards Day, Brian Kay received the prestigious Police Officer of the Year (POY) award. The recipient is determined by a group of top police officials, but the award is sponsored by the local chapter of the National Exchange Club (NEC). A short, summary excerpt from the RPD's statement honoring Brian says, "Officer Kay is a proactive, enthusiastic officer, who always puts the community before himself. He continually volunteers his personal time to participate in PBA events and community policing initiatives, forming positive relationships with all. Officer Kay has received numerous letters of recognition from the public for his dedication and commitment to the community. He is well respected by his peers and supervisors. Officer Kay leads by example and quickly became a great role model that can be counted on. Congratulations on this well-deserved accomplishment, Brian!!!

The NEC created a special program to express their appreciation for the police across the US. Indeed, the CT District of the Exchange Club holds an annual "Salute to the Finest", where POY winners from across CT are feted and honored at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville CT. This year that event occurred earlier than the local RPD awards and Brian was also honored there. Anyone wanting more info on the local Exchange Club is welcome to call Nick at 475-215-5653.
