Autumn is actually the best time of year to plant and reconsider your gardens and lawns. Join RCC chairman Erik Keller at the Ridgefield Library on Thursday, September 10th at 7:00 pm for a discussion about nature-friendly landscaping practices. Erik will cover a variety of options as to how best to care for lawns, trees/shrubs, annuals/perennials, as well as the safe use of pesticides/herbicides/fertilizers.&nbsp;
Erik has been a member of the commission since 2019 and is a certified Master Gardener in Connecticut. He has also received certification in horticultural therapy from the New York Botanical Garden and is the author of the book, “A Therapist’s Garden”.

The Congregation for Humanistic Judaism of Fairfield County, CT (CHJ), welcomes the public to our High Holiday services.
Our schedule of in-person (and livestreamed) services are as follows:
Rosh Hashanah Service, Friday, September 11th at 7:30 pm (Oneg to follow) Yom Kippur Kol Nidre Service, Sunday, September 20th at 7:30 pmYom Kippur Memorial and Closing Service, Monday, September 21st at 5:00 pm. 
All three services will be open to members and non-members, their families, and guests, both in-person and by livestream. Non-members must pre-register, no later than Friday, September 4, for location details or livestream instructions. Register on&nbsp;CHJ’s website. While our services are free of charge, we kindly ask non-members to consider a donation.
As the only Humanistic Jewish congregation in Connecticut, CHJ celebrates Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur with a Humanistic liturgy, beautiful live music (song leader and instrumental), and inspirational poetry and readings.

SAT Test Prep on Zoom with Lentz and Lentz
Lentz and Lentz is proud to be offering live online virtual classrooms for SAT and PSAT prep. These classes are taught by our best rated teachers. The reviews from students who have taken these classes have been excellent. These live online courses consist of the same instructional content as our in-person classroom courses conducted at our local high schools.
Students prep in the comfort, convenience, and safety of their own homes. With easy to use screen sharing technology hosted through ZOOM, we are able to create a virtual classroom in which the instructor and all students can communicate with one another in real time. These lessons proceed according to the exact same format as our classroom lesson plans. Everything our instructors write down over the course of the lesson, including problems, notes, and solutions are visible online. Students with questions can push a button to raise their hands. In addition to real time answers, there is also access to free individualized extra-help. Students also have the opportunity to re-listen to lessons in their entirety. The online classroom is a perfect solution for preparation allowing students the convenience and flexibility to prepare in the comfort and safety of their own homes.

The Jay Heritage Center in Rye, New York will celebrate America at 250 with a toast to Jay Medal honorees Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University and award-winning Lincoln historian Harold Holzer.
The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.
