Don't throw your pumpkins (or gourds) in the trash!
Compost them at the Ridgefield Great Pumpkin Pile to help reduce unnecessary food waste!
Don't throw your pumpkins (or gourds) in the trash! In the United States, more than 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkin are sent to landfills every year.
INSTEAD . . .
Dispose of "naked" pumpkins and gourds (meaning unpainted, undecorated ex. glue, glitter, etc.) at the Ridgefield Great Pumpkin Pile, located at the Town of Ridgefield Garage (60 South Street) across from the Recycling Center. Last year, we were able to divert over 3,800 lbs of organic material from the waste stream!
You can always break pumpkins or gourds into smaller pieces and leave them in the woods for our animal friends or put them in your backyard compost. Speaking of animal friends, Henny Penny (a local farm located at 673 Ridgebury Road) is also accepting "naked" pumpkins for its animals
Whatever you do, just don't trash those pumpkins! Open now through the end of November.
