FAA: Depuy Held Private Pilot Certificate
Two Colgate University freshmen from Ridgefield died Sunday in Madison County, N.Y.

The Colgate University student who piloted the plane that crashed in New York and killed both occupants held a private pilot certificate.
While FAA records showed that Depuy held a student pilot certificate issued in October 2013, the agency confirmed to Patch that the pilot of the Cessna C150 aircraft that crashed in Eaton, N.Y. held a private pilot certificate.
Under FAA rules, those who hold a private pilot private certificate are allowed to carry passengers.

Student pilots are not allowed to carry passengers and can only fly solo once they have been endorsed by an instructor.
Depuy and Ryan Adams, both freshmen at Colgate University and Ridgefield natives died Sunday after the plane they were crashed in Madison County, N.Y.

Depuy was a graduate of Ridgefield High School and Adams graduated from St. Luke’s in New Canaan.
A prayer service was held on Monday for Depuy, Adams and 19-year-old Ryan Meegan, a UConn student from Ridgefield who died in a separate crash on Friday.
Earlier media reports said Depuy should not have been carrying a passenger since she held a student pilot certificate. Patch erroneously reported that she held a student pilot certificate relying on these reports and regrets the error.
