Obituary: Robert (Gary) Knox

Robert Knox of Circle Drive in Ridgefield, known as Gary to friends and family, passed away on Saturday January 4th 2025. Gary spent his earliest years on an estate in North Salem among gardens and show cattle. He moved to Ridgefield as a teenager, where he met Andrea, the love of his life and wife of 56 years. Gary inspired his closest family and friends by overcoming childhood learning difficulties, transforming into a prolific reader and a graduate of Western Connecticut State University. Gifts that were obvious to all that met him were his artistic and innate mechanical ability, which led him to become a master home builder. His family had a saying, if grandpa couldn’t fix it, no one could. His other gift was that he was a man of absolute integrity, and had a willingness to both sacrifice his needs and dedicate himself to those close to him. His ultimate dedication was for his family. While he never had the opportunity to enjoy sports as a child himself, he learned baseball, soccer and basketball to become a coach for his kids' teams. Some of the things that Gary loved were watching birds, observing the beauty of nature, listening to music (particularly folk music) and figuring out how things work. He loved spending time with his family and friends, vacationing in Cape Cod and St Simon’s Island, biking, exploring, beaching and playing tennis. He survived his parents Aiken and Dorothy, and siblings Harold and Ann Marie. He is survived by his wife Andrea, sister Jane, children Laura and Ryan, grandchildren Jacob, Leah and Anna and children-in-law Jake and Susan. There are no public services planned for remembrance.
