Ridgefield Garden Club Member Event

Signe Nielsen, landscape architect, spoke about the creation of Little Island in NYC's Hudson River Park.

The Ridgefield Garden Club kicked off its new year on September 17 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church with landscape architect Signe Nielsen. Ms. Nielsen spoke about creating and designing award winning Little Island, which opened May 2021 in New York City’s Hudson River Park. Guests visit for free and experience nature and art in a unique urban oasis on the Hudson River. Ms. Nielsen’s landscape design for Little Island changes through the seasons with a variety of trees, perennials and bulbs providing an inspiring experience in the 2.7-acre park. She selected plants based on their resiliency now and in the future, as well as on native plants for pollinators and birds. The meandering park pathways offer extraordinary views of the city and the Hudson River.
