Ridgefield Garden Club Member Event

Brian Truskowski, a long-standing Ridgefield resident, member of the Ridgefield Garden Club, and a Master Gardener through the UCONN Extension Program presented an enlightening and fun lecture on the basics of honey beekeeping, and other pollinators at the Ridgefield Garden Club February meeting. We learned about the different honey bees in the colony and their roles for propagation, survival and pollination. Brian shared with us his successful beekeeping experience at his home garden, and how his honey bees benefit his large native garden, as well as his neighbor’s garden. He provided tried and true tips on how one could begin beekeeping, and the different structures to support honey bee colonies. And everyone left with a lovely sample of his delicious honey to enjoy. Honey bees are essential for pollinating our gardens, and Brian’s in-depth presentation on beekeeping added valuable context and great insight into that process.
