Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra Opens Season on Sunday!

Celebrating 60th Anniversary

The Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra (RSO) will open its 60th anniversary season this Sunday, September 29th at 5:00 PM at the Ridgefield Playhouse with a concert titled DELIGHTS & DANCES. The concert features the outstanding professional musicians of the RSO under the direction of conductor Eric Mahl. The program includes lively, engaging and iconic music from three different centuries.

The concert opens with the marvelous Dances of Galánta by Zoltán Kodály. Based on Hungarian folk music, this piece opens the season with an exciting romp through its five quick sections. Followed on the program by Delights & Dances, written by living American composer Michael Abels and highlighting the RSO Quartet – the orchestra’s four principal string players Jorge Avila and Mialtin Zhezha, violins, Suzanne Corey-Sahlin, viola and Nick Hardie, cello – as soloists with the orchestra. The performance concludes with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 “Eroica”, one of the composers most celebrated pieces and a truly monumental work. Symphony No. 3 broke boundaries in symphonic form, harmony, emotional and cultural content and is widely considered a landmark in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras.

“We are extremely excited to begin the RSO’s anniversary season with an exciting concert of music, and featuring our exceptional musicians” says RSO Executive Director Laurie Kenagy. “The entire 2024/25 season is a celebration of an amazing history of presenting great music and recognition of the value of the performing arts in our community.”

The concert will be held this Sunday, September 29th at 5:00 PM at the Ridgefield Playhouse (80 East Ridge Road, Ridgefield, CT). Doors open at 3:30 PM, with a pre-concert talk in the auditorium at 4:00 PM with conductor Eric Mahl and open to all ticket holders.

Tickets can be purchased online at https://ci.ovationtix.com/35696/production/1199414 or by calling the RSO box office at 203-438-3889.
