Ridgefield Voters To Decide on Food Trucks at Breweries Wednesday

The current ordinance forbids food trucks and carts from staying in the same location longer than 15 minutes. Is it time for a change?

RIDGEFIELD, CT -- Voters will decide whether food trucks may be allowed to ply their wares near wineries and breweries in town on Wednesday night at a special town meeting.

The current ordinance, forbidding trucks and carts from staying in the same location longer than 15 minutes, was passed in November 2016. It was established in part to protect the interests of town restaurants and other businesses. Only two food trucks -- Chez Lenard on Main Street and Zwack Shack on Route 7 -- were granted exceptions, grandfathered in due to their longstanding business in their areas.

The vote was triggered by a petition of nearly 400 names, requesting the change in legislation. The operators of Nod Hill Brewery on Route 7 spearheaded the petition, believing that the presence of food trucks near their facility will enhance sales.

The meeting is Wednesday night, July 25, at 7:30 in town hall’s lower level conference room.
