St. Stephen's Announces Soloists for Christmas Concert

St. Stephen's Carols by Candlelight concert on December 14 will feature two soloists, a choir, professional chamber orchestra and readings.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church presents its Carols by Candlelight concert Saturday, Dec. 14, at 5 p.m. in the church sanctuary at 353 Main Street, Ridgefield. Soprano Lydia Toperzer will be soloist in a performance of the beloved hymn “O Holy Night,” which has become a signature piece for the Carols by Candlelight concert. Baritone Thomas Carr will sing a recitative and the aria “For the Mountains Shall Depart,” from Felix Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah.

The concert, a celebration of Advent and Christmas, also features the St. Stephen’s Festival Choir, a professional chamber orchestra and readings. Derrick Goff, St. Stephen’s minister of music, will conduct the ensemble. The choir will perform seasonal works from around the world and through the ages, and the audience will be invited to join in singing familiar Christmas carols. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. The suggested donation is $20.
