Retirement Community Honors Veterans with Wall of Honor
In anticipation of Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day this month, The Lodge at Cold Spring recently rededicated it's Veteran's Wall of Honor.
One of the things The Lodge at Cold Spring prides itself on is giving senior citizens the carefree and relaxing retirement life they’ve earned after years of hard work. The Lodge is home to a number of veterans (and spouses of veterans) from all branches of the armed forces. Since the holidays of Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day are quickly approaching this month, The Lodge staff members decided to get a head start in honoring the veteran residents and their families.
This past Saturday, May 5, The Lodge rededicated its Veteran’s Wall of Honor to all of the community’s residents, and loved ones, who had served in the armed forces. There are approximately 20 – 25 photos of veteran residents on the new wall, which is now surrounded by decals of all the branches of the US Armed Forces, as well as the American flag and the flag of Connecticut.
The half-hour ceremony was led by The Lodge Community Sales Leader Paul Tarasuk and Holiday Retirement Regional Manager Anthony Santiago. Armed Forces historian John Callahan also recited a rousing poem called “Soldier” by George Skypeck for residents and guests alike (If you’d like to hear it for yourself, a video is attached to this post). Residents were moved by ceremony, but were so happy at the same time because of how beautiful the Wall of Honor turned out. After selflessly risking their lives to ensure our freedom, the Wall of Honor rededication was a great way to show respect and gratitude to all who served our country at The Lodge at Cold Spring.
