The Rocky Hill girls’ volleyball team defeated Sheehan High School of Wallingford 3-2 in a tight match to advance to the Class M tournament final, which is the first time in school history.

"I am really so proud of these girls," said Rocky Hill head coach George McKinnon. "It is really unbelievable. All year we worked hard for this moment"

Behind an electrified crowd, the Terriers would go on to win the next two sets 25-19 and 15-10.

In the past five days, the Rocky Hill team has played three matches with each coming down to the final set. McKinnon said at times, the heat inside the gymnasium and fatigue affected his girls. In the end, they were able to regroup and fight through it.

"We got over the fatigue. We started to feel it again. We knew the fifth game is ours."

McKinnon said Kyley Reed had "an outstanding game" and was one of the keys to Rocky Hill‘s victory.

"She is just an offensive weapon. A player that could play anywhere and do a great job anywhere she goes. She's our offensive go-to-girl.""

The team "kept feeding" Reed by setting her up for 53 kills. She added 38 digs on defense, McKinnon said.

Julie Stoneburner had a career high 54 assists in an outstanding performance as the team's setter, according to McKinnon.

Krista Iacobucci was 19-20 from the service line with 12 points. She also played "a great game defensively" with 10 digs, McKinnon said.

Megan Ruonavaara went 22-23 from the service line with 13 points. She also had 15 kills and 20 digs.

Nicole Miskunas had six kills and two blocks.

Now, the girls’ volleyball team has a date with "destiny" and a matchup with number two seed Joel Barlow of Redding on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Wilby High School in Waterbury.
