Resident Helps Organize the Greater Hartford Irish Music Festival

Event highlights Irish culture, food and music.

The 27th annual Greater Hartford Irish Music Festival hosted by the Irish American Home Society will be held this weekend and a Rocky Hill resident is helping get the word out about the big event.

“There is something for all ages,” Debbie Cone, publicity and club tent chairwoman, said.  Cone took over as publicity chairwoman in June and has been working feverishly to help organize the event.

One of the main attractions of the festival is the music. The Guinness main stage will be rocking with Irish rock bands Seven Nations, The Rising, Highland Rovers and many more.  Dancers from the Mulcahy Academy in East Hartford will perform in between bands.

The Irish American Home Society’s tent called the “Cash N Kerry” will feature several different Irish foods including the “world’s best corn beef sandwiches,” according to Cone.

Cone, who recently appeared Better Connecticut to help promote the event, will travel to New York to pick all meats, puddings and other items for the club tent.

A cultural tent will feature Ceili dancing, set dancing and exhibits on Irish culture and history. Another feature attraction in that tent is the “To Love of Two Countries” book display, which is the story of men and women who immigrated from Ireland to the United States told through pictures.

There will be an amusement area with rides and games for children, a silent auction and a vendor tent with Irish wares and goods.  A Catholic Mass will be held on Sunday at noon.

The event will be at the Irish American Home Society, at 132 Commerce St., in Glastonbury.  The event is Friday from 6 p.m. to midnight, Saturday from 2 p.m. to midnight and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

Adults are $10, seniors are $9 and children under the age of 10 years old are free.
